Deliver the look and feel of Windows® Explorer with the COM explorer. We've created a component that allows developers to adopt this widely used UI in their own applications. The explorer-style UI creates an intuitive application interface that pairs a TreeView with a viewer pane, separated by a splitter bar. The OLE DB bindable nodes of the TreeView can be synchronized with objects in the right-hand viewer pane. The COM explorer includes built-in viewer panes for web browsers, Microsoft® Office documents, forms, MFC dialogs, extended ListViews or other ActiveX components.

Technical Specifications
Built-In Viewer Panes for any node - Associate each node in the TreeView object with an object in the right pane, including a ListView, web-browser, another ActiveX component, EditView, form or MFC dialog, a read-only Microsoft® Office document, or dual forms with a built-in splitter bar to combine any two of the viewer panes.
Intrinsic Tabs can be set for both the TreeView and right pane(s) and positioned to the top, bottom, left or right side of each pane. Tabs can contain images and wrapped multi-line text, and supports text mouseover color changes. Tabs also allow for multiple data-bound TreeViews in a single COM explorer.
OLE DB/ADO Support With Updateable Hierarchical Recordsets Visually bind node structures to a data source using the custom property pages, and populate the right-hand pane with OLE DB/ADO data. Synchronize changes and update hierarchical recordsets at any level. The COM explorer can also be used in unbound mode.
Simplified icon management — The COM explorer object allows enhanced user-defined image lists.
Loading and saving files from disk is a snap with built-in data persistence.
Enhanced TreeView can support a virtually unlimited amount of data, and the developer can choose to toggle the TreeView so that only one node level is open at any given time. Set background and font colors and add check boxes to TreeView nodes.
Enhanced ListView - The built-in ListView supports background colors and images, font colors and properties, images on column headers, shared image lists, and header styles. ListView columns can be selectively hidden in report mode, and items can be sorted, searched and edited in-place.
Full Support For OLE Drag & Drop — With a single property page, set OLE drag & drop support for both TreeView and ListView panes. At run time, allow users to move objects on the tree with a mouse drag, or copy ListView items to the Windows clipboard for use in Microsoft® Office applications.
Microsoft® Outlook-Style UI — The COM explorer provides a number of Outlook-style UI features including the ability to show/hide the ListView or TreeView pane. Caption headings can be based on the associated node.
Built-In Explorer-Style Toolbar — provides enhanced toolbar support. In addition to displaying toolbar icons without text, the COM explorer toolbar supports image for items, with optional drop arrows to display custom drop-down items for ToolBar buttons. Navigation history is automated with back and forward buttons, and the ToolBar can be displayed with or without the Outlook-style caption headings.
