Product information

What is Adobe RoboHelp?
Adobe RoboHelp 7 software provides a fast and easy way for technical communicators to build, manage, and publish professional help systems and knowledge bases. Create powerful, searchable help systems and knowledge bases for desktop and web-based applications that incorporate standard and advanced help features, including tables of contents, indexes, glossaries, context-sensitive help, graphics, Adobe Captivate® simulations, Adobe Flash® animations, sound, and more.

How many products are in the RoboHelp family?
Adobe Systems has simplified the product offering and added many user-requested features and improvements. As a bonus, RoboHelp 7 also includes extra utilities and tools, including Adobe Acrobat Elements, at no additional cost, bringing it on par with other best-of-class Adobe technical documentation and eLearning applications, such as Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Captivate, and Adobe Acrobat. The RoboHelp 7 family now consists of two software products designed to meet two distinct needs: RoboHelp 7 and RoboHelp Server 7. You can use RoboHelp 7 to quickly single-source help content in a range of popular formats, customize content for different formats and purposes, and collaborate with others on the same project. With RoboHelp Server 7, you can easily deploy up-to-date online content, monitor the use of your help system in real time, and develop help systems for use with the Microsoft .NET Framework. What happened to RoboHelp Office, RoboHelp Office Pro, RoboEngine, and RoboInfo?
To provide more value and help simplify things for our customers, we have consolidated the previous line of RoboHelp products into RoboHelp 7 and RoboHelp Server 7. The authoring and publishing features of RoboHelp Office, RoboHelp Office Pro, RoboHelp Office Pro for .NET, and RoboInfo have been consolidated into RoboHelp 7. RoboHelp Server 7 includes all the server-based functionality from RoboHelp Office Pro, RoboHelp Office Pro for .NET, and RoboEngine Connectivity Pack.

What are the new features in RoboHelp 7?
  • RoboHelp 7 includes Unicode support, which enables you to edit and create content in many different languages; cleaner HTML handling, which eliminates the use of the Kadov tags required in earlier versions; MDI support so you can open multiple RoboHelp topics simultaneously during editing and easily drag and drop and copy and paste content between topics; improved MIF import, which enables you to import Adobe FrameMaker® 8 MIF files with default style mapping, conditional tags, user-defined variables, and Captivate content intact; an enhanced search feature that highlights search terms; breadcrumb navigation; multiple tables of contents; enhanced user-defined variables; improved integration with Captivate and RoboScreen Capture; updated true code editor for improved undo and redo operations; an updated user interface; and Microsoft Office 2007 and Windows Vista® support.

  • What are the new features in RoboHelp Server 7?
  • Adobe RoboHelp Server 7 software includes deployment improvements that make it easier to install and set up server-based features, Unicode support so you can publish help systems and knowledge bases in multiple languages for global audiences, and IPv6 support.

  • What is the difference between FlashHelp and FlashHelp Pro?
FlashHelp is a revolutionary help format that combines Flash and XML technologies to provide consistency across popular browsers and platforms. FlashHelp can easily be generated with RoboHelp 7 software, without any knowledge of the Flash authoring tool. FlashHelp Pro is the server-based version of FlashHelp available in RoboHelp 7. FlashHelp Pro enables authors to publish a help system based on Flash technology to RoboHelp Server 7.

Does RoboHelp have international language support?
Yes, RoboHelp 7 supports Unicode, which enables you to author and edit help topics in many different languages. RoboHelp 7 can publish help systems in many languages: Brazilian Portuguese, Bulgarian, Canadian French, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Swiss German, Thai, Traditional Chinese, Turkish, and Vietnamese. RoboHelp 7 checks spelling, auto-corrects words, and creates a keyword index in any of these languages. The generated help system, including navigation, appears in the selected language. Full text search is also operational in any of the languages.

Can I import a project created in other help authoring tools (for example, AuthorIT, Component One, and Flare)?
You can import the final help system output, but you cannot import the proprietary file formats from third-party authoring tools.

What are Adobe’s plans for Vista Help; will RH 7 support Vista Help?
Adobe is committed to compatibility with the Microsoft operating environment. When Microsoft makes its Vista Help plans available, Adobe will take the necessary actions to ensure RoboHelp compatibility with Vista.

Does RoboHelp 7 integrate with FrameMaker?
You can import FrameMaker 8 MIF and FM files with style mapping, conditional tags, user-defined variables, and Captivate content intact. Additional RoboHelp 7 and FrameMaker integration can be experienced through new Adobe Technical Communication Suite software, which includes RoboHelp 7, FrameMaker 8, Captivate 3, and Adobe Acrobat® 3D Version 8 software.
