It completely automates the collection, processing and transmission of usage data, and, unlike ASP-based solutions, does not require the licensed software to be hosted by a commercial service provider. This allows usage-based licensing to be implemented in any customer environment, streamlining software distribution.
The Utility Pricing Module works with the FLEXnet Publisher Licensing Module to gather usage data from each of the end-user sites. It then anonymizes any personally identifying data (in accordance with European privacy laws), and authenticates the resulting data, preventing usage tampering. Next, the secure data is automatically transmitted to the software vendor’s operations center, where the Utility Pricing Receiver collects, validates and stores the information for processing. The usage data can then be used for billing and market analysis with the analysis tools provided.
