LinKit! - Frequently Asked Questions
What’s
needed for me to be able to use LinKit!?
Besides LinKit! Manager, you need access on the same computer to the
application for which you want to link user documentation. The documentation
itself you can create in your favorite way (with or without a help
authoring tool).
Why
does the application need to be on the same computer as LinKit!?
Because you use a simple LinKit! icon to list the windows (and
dialog boxes) in the application.
What
format is needed for my user documentation to be able to link it?
LinKit! supports documentation in the form of WinHelp, HTMLHelp
and HTML pages.
Can
I link Word documents to applications using LinKit! ?
Word documents can be linked after saving them as HTML pages.
How
do I know the links work correctly?
You can test a link as soon as you create it. You’ll see the
same results as your users, too.
How
do users access documentation with LinKit!?
Users can either click an icon in their task bar or press a
shortcut key to view the documentation linked to a window or dialog box. LinKit!
tracks the active window, so it knows which topic to display.
If more than one topic is linked to the current window, users select which topic
to view first. You have complete control over the document names that are
presented to the end-user, independently from the original naming of the
document files.
How
do I update my links?
You can continuously and simply update LinKit! — Add new
windows, add new documentation, publish, and distribute.
